Whole Grain
The Health Benefits.
Whole grains carry a big “nutrition bang” for your buck. The fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals have been scientifically proven to help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, some cancers, diabetes and obesity. The medical research has been so strong that The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2005) recommend at least half of all your daily servings of grains come from whole grain sources. This amounts to at least 3-5 servings of whole grains each day for adults and 2-3 servings of whole grains per day for children.
An even easier way to “digest” this is to look for The Whole Grain Council’s whole grain yellow stamp. Adults should try to eat six (6) foods with any whole grain stamp on it each day (children half that amount) or three (3) foods with the 100% whole grain stamp.
